Documentary: "Mission Against Terror"
Chomsky Tells Story of the Cuban Five
Boston, 9th February, (RHC)--Professor Noam Chomsky addressed around 500 people at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston on 8th February for the screening of the documentary “Mission against Terror” setting the case of the Cuban Five in the context of nearly fifty years of terrorist activity directed towards Cuba from Miami.
Professor Chomsky, having been introduced as the star of the evening, described the five Cuban heroes, Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labanino, Antonio Guerrero, Rene Gonzalez and Fernando Gonzalez, as the real stars of the event. The well known lecturer and political analyst shared a panel during the Question and Answer session with Irish radio journalist Bernie Dwyer, Radio Havana Cuba and British Catholic priest Fr Geoffrey Bottoms, coordinator of the UK Free the Five Campaign.
Dwyer and Bottoms are currently touring the north-east of the United States to raise awareness of the case of the Five who are serving sentences in US prisons scattered across the country on charges of conspiracy to commit espionage, among others, after they infiltrated terrorist groups in Miami in defence of Cuba.
A lively discussion took place as different views were expressed with Professor Chomsky giving a comprehensive analysis of US-Cuban relations and the process of Latin American integration while Dwyer and Bottoms addressed questions specifically involving the Five and the campaign of international solidarity.
Nalda Vigezzi, on behalf of the National Network on Cuba, one of the evening's sponsors, gave an update on the current situation of the case which prompted considerable interest in the audience who expressed support for the freedom of the Five. The event was also sponsored by the Institute's Thistle newspaper.
The event generated so much interest that the huge amount of printed information available on the Five was taken by those present and almost 50 copies of “Mission against Terror” co-directed by Bernie Dwyer and Cuban TV director Roberto Ruiz Rebo were sold.
The following day Dwyer and Bottoms traveled from Boston to Providence, where they will make a similar presentation at the University of Rhode Island.
