WITNESS AGAINST TORTURE
Press Conference:

Wednesday, 12/7/05, a press conference was held in New York City at St. Mark's in the Bowery 131 E. 10th St. New York, NY 10003 at 11:30 am to announce the Witness Against Torture initiative. Speakers included:

Michael Ratner, from Center for Constitutional Rights and
Gitanjali Gutierrez, the lead attorney for Guantanamo Bay detainees
Dianna Ortiz, an American survivor of torture and founder of Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition.
Jennifer Harbury of Stop Torture Campaign - Author of: Truth, Torture and the American Way
A family member of a Guantanamo detainee
A member of Witness Against Torture announced the Witness Against Torture Initiative.

The Conference was well received and press accounts are beginning to appear across the United States and throughout Europe. If you Google "Guantanamo" and click "News" the list of article will appear.

Felton Davis, of Mary House at the NY Catholic Worker has been transcribing the statements of the speakers at the conference. These will become available soon. Gitanjali Gutierrez will be in Guantanamo on Saturday, December 10 to visit the prisoner she represents.
