Guadalupe (CA) Catholic Worker Dennis Apel and Fr. Steve Kelly, S.J. were arrested outside
the main gate of Vandenberg AFB on August 9, commemorating the 63 anniversary of the bombing of Nagasaki (Photos attached). At our annual Hiroshima/Nagasaki day commemoration vigil, Dennis and Fr.
Steve were arrested for violation of their “Ban and Bar” letter that they received for the May 19, 2007 witness and arrest, which prohibits their presence on or near the base for life.
Mike Wisniewski (LACW) also was given a warning to leave or face arrest for violating his “Ban and Bar”, but he chose to leave the vigil area. Dennis, Fr. Steve, Mike, and Jeff Dietrich from the LACW,
face another hearing on Sept. 18 for the May 19, 2007 action.

Members of the National Campaign for Nonviolent Resistance again went inside the U.S. Capitol with a message to end the funding of the Iraq War. On September 20, 2007, thirty four NCNR activists did a die-in at the Capitol Crypt to plead with Congress to stop funding an illegal occupation of Iraq.
This time, on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, NCNR members went into the gallery of the U.S. Senate as Ghosts of the Iraq War. Continue Reading »

Imperial County Jail - Fr. Louie Vitale
Martin Luther King, Jr., Day - January 21, 2008 - 40 years later
a reflection from prison by Louie Vitale: February 2008
Two years ago at this time, I was in a Georgia jail. I could not help
but remember having lived in southern Georgia (Valdosta) while
training with the U.S. Air Force in 1956. It was very shocking to me
to see the overt signs of racism. A close friend in the squadron Continue Reading »

Last week in Currituck County, N.C., Superior Court Judge Russell
Duke presided over the final step in securing the first criminal
conviction stemming from the deadly actions of Blackwater Worldwide,
the Bush administration’s favorite mercenary company. Lest you think
you missed some earth-shifting, breaking news, hold on a moment. The
“criminals” in question were not the armed thugs who gunned down 17
Iraqi civilians and wounded more than 20 others in Baghdad’s Nisour
Square last September. They were seven nonviolent activists who had
the audacity to stage a demonstration at the gates of Blackwater’s
7,000-acre private military base in North Carolina to protest the
actions of mercenaries acting with impunity — and apparent immunity
– in their names and those of every American.

Reflection on Jeremiah's Complaint - Part One (Jer. 20: 7-18)
God, you're pretty clever. You led me on a path I didn't expect - or
even wanted. I feel duped. You overpowered me and now I'm stuck.
I'm ridiculed all day long. Everyone mocks me: "What are you trying
to prove anyway? You're not accomplishing anything. Things are never
going to change; you can't fight city hall, Get real!"
