Mary Grace: Blackwater Demo on Youtube
Oct 27th, 2007 by admin
Hey, there!
Whew. Ya gotta move when the Spirit says move!
Five days locked up sure makes one grateful for rain, trees, air, life!
It was a good thing to witness with the other women inmates, “in” for street crimes.
It was healing to them for me simply to listen to their troubles and encourage them
to take back control of their own lives and to take the gospel, which some read
daily, seriously. It was an extreemly uncomfortable, yet gratifying time. We sang
Amazing Grace every night and I taught them Alleluia Anyhow, which they loved! Every
time the Blackwater protest came on the news, and on Montel, the women would holler
out to me to tell me about it. Here is a clip for the action itself:

to a five minute video of the Blackwater witness. To the right of that are related
links. I encourage you to view the Jeremy Scahill short. Jeremy is a friend of
Nicholas’ and wrote the Blackwater book - best selling non-fiction and his first!
He’s an amazingly articulate speaker. There is a note from Rebecca, the producer,
below. It was a Spirit thing.
Blessings and hope, Mary

Subject: Civil Disobedience at Blackwater
Date: Mon, 22 Oct 2007 10:02:07 -0400 I hope this email finds everyone well. I am sending all of you a link to a
YouTube video I posted which captures this amazing act of civil disobedience I was
part of this weekend at Blackwater USA’s headquarters. Catholic worker peace
activists staged a re-enactment of the Nisour Square massacre outside the gates of
the headquarters, to protest the atrocities committed by Blackwater and demanding
accountability.
I know in this crazy world it is easy to feel disempowered and overwhelmed,
especially when it comes to the political arena, but I am hoping that watching
these selfless individuals who were willing to get arrested to bring attention to
this issue, will inspire you to take action yourself. By taking action, we become
more empowered and only then can we hold not just Blackwater, but our supposed
“representative” government accountable.
Enjoy, pass on, and leave comments…
