Blackwater 7 Second Trial

Beth Brockman of Durham, N.C.; Mark Colville of New Haven, Conn.; Peter DeMott of Ithaca, N.Y.; Mary Grace of Madison County, Va.; Laura Marks of Ayden, N.C.; and Bill Streit of Louisa County, Va. were sentenced today by Judge Russell Duke for their protest at Blackwater in North Carolina. Judge Duke sentenced the 7 peace activists, giving them 5 days. Most had already served the 5 days, for the ones who hadn’t served the 5 days, the judge gave suspended sentences.

Today Judge Russell Duke heard the jury trial of the Blackwater 7, who were able to testify and read their statement and show the Youtube video to the jury. The jury eventually found them guilty, sentencing is tomorrow, January 24.

Today Beth Brockman of Durham, N.C.; Mark Colville of New Haven, Conn.; Peter DeMott of Ithaca, N.Y.; Mary Grace of Madison County, Va.; Laura Marks of Ayden, N.C.; and Bill Streit of Louisa County, Va. were in court ready for their second trial.
Preliminary matters were taken care of today: Judge Russell Duke told the defendants that the jury trial would start Thursday, Jan 23, at 9:30 am. Judge Duke said that only the facts of the case would be discussed, and that he was prepared to give contempt charges (30 days and a $500. fine) for each comtempt violation.
The judge also told the protesters that they faced a 180 day sentence.
